The Leather Travel Valet Tray

Inspired by a much-loved leather tray long treasured by Mr Cordeaux, this refined travel companion is a reimagining of an Italian original through the lens of British craftsmanship. Mr Cordeaux’s tray, made in Florence by Machiavelli Leather Goods in the 1960s, has accompanied him for decades. It is a quiet testament to timeless design and enduring style.

Fox has brought this classic form back to life in collaboration with Beorma Leather Company and J. & F. J. Baker. The result is a beautifully balanced piece that combines the structure and scent of traditional English leatherwork with the softness and sartorial elegance of Fox Brothers cloth.

The tray is formed from oak bark tanned leather in a rich conker colour, sourced from J. & F. J. Baker, Britain’s last traditional oak bark tannery. This slow and natural tanning method takes over a year to complete. It produces a hide that is both supple and full of depth. Over time, the leather will age beautifully, bearing the quiet hallmarks of its owner’s life.

It is lined in Fox Brothers’ Classic Flannel Houndstooth Brown, an alternating light and dark brown pattern in superfine Merino wool. The cloth was drawn from the Fox archive and woven in Somerset with all the refinement of the Fox Brothers legacy, which now stretches back over 250 years.

Corner poppers allow the tray to flatten for travel, slipping easily into a bag or suitcase. When reassembled, it becomes a neat catch-all for cufflinks, collar stays or small daily essentials. It is as suited to the bedside as it is to a gentleman’s dressing station or writing desk.

This tray is brought to life by Beorma Leather Company, a workshop founded with a singular mission: to preserve Walsall’s centuries-old leather tradition. When a fourth-generation factory was facing closure, founder Alex Simpson stepped in to keep its legacy alive. Today, Beorma honours that inheritance with every hand-finished piece, creating objects made to be used, valued and passed on.

The tray is made from oak bark tanned leather in conker brown, lined in Fox Brothers Classic Flannel Houndstooth Brown (CL2-38), and secured with brass poppers at each corner. Handmade in England by Beorma Leather Company.
