“There are certain moments when you put something on and it simply feels right.”
The Chatsworth is one of those pieces. It carries a quiet assurance, the sort of coat that slips easily into your wardrobe and quickly becomes the one you reach for without thinking. It has a presence about it, shaped by the weight and handle of Fox Tweed, the way it falls, and the considered detailing throughout.
“The first thing that struck me was the length. It covers the hem of the jacket underneath, exactly how a proper coat should sit.”
I’m wearing mine over a double-breasted suit, and that length is the first thing I notice. Made in Fox Tweed, woven here in Somerset using British wool, the coat has an ease and balance that comes from good construction. It’s made for us in Spain by Justo Gimeno, whose work I’ve admired for years. It isn’t heavy, which is one of the first things you notice when you lift it off the back of a chair or take it from the hanger. It has presence without ever feeling cumbersome.
The tweed has a natural wind resistance because of the fibre construction. Then there are the details, like the moleskin beneath the collar and inside chest pockets, which will only add to its life over the years. It’s a coat that will wear in beautifully, not out.
“I can already imagine reporting back in ten years’ time to see how it’s aged.”
The pockets will develop that familiar patina where your hands rest, and the buttons and zip, which are new and bright now, will mellow with time. It’s one of those pieces that only gets better the more you wear it.
You can wear it almost anywhere. It works for dog walks in the country or over a suit in the city. It’s offered in four tweeds, so however you picture yourself wearing it, there’s an option that suits.
“For me, if I could only choose one winter piece, it would be the Chatsworth.”
It’s beautifully made, woven in Fox Tweed, which is one of the loveliest cloths you can have. Then it’s tailored in Spain by a proper maker, with adjustable side tabs at the back so you can nip it in at the waist or let it out if layering something heavier beneath.
There’s a storm flap, which, when fastened, really comes into its own. It’s practical as well as handsome, bringing the moleskin and tweed right up to the neck for extra warmth. The two chest pockets are placed at just the right height, perfect for warming your hands when you’ve forgotten your gloves on a winter walk.
“It’s not a fashion coat. It’s the sort of piece you’ll pass down.”
This is a timeless classic. It’s made with the finest cloth and finished with Fox cupro lining. It isn’t about trends. It’s the kind of jacket you’ll wear for decades and that will one day be borrowed by your children.
A wonderful piece, built to last.
